Vitamin A Deficiency (VAD) continues to be a major public health problem among children aged 6-59 months of age in many countries around the world. In populations where VAD is a public health problem, WHO recommends twice-yearly high dose vitamin A supplementation (VAS) for children 6-59 months of age as a means to reduce morbidity and mortality. In accordance with WHO guidelines, the Government of Indonesia has been implementing a VAS program for over 20 years, however the last micronutrient survey that measured VA status among preschool children was in 1992. In order to know whether or not the national VAS program should continue as is, or if there is need for any targeted improvements, updated VAD data among preschool age children is urgently needed.
Therefore, NI is seeking to hire an agency to provide support to MoH to conduct national level expert meeting to collect feedback and recommendations from experts to generate evidence on VAD and conduct an advocacy meeting for resource mobilization to identify funding for MOH to conduct a national serum retinol survey in Indonesia.
