Chief Conservation Officer - Jakarta

Yayasan WWF Indonesia, an independent national conservation organization, is part of a global network of WWF. Yayasan WWF Indonesia is seeking the best candidate for the Chief Conservation Officer position. This position will be based in Jakarta, and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Chief Conservation Officer is responsible for the delivery of transformational and lasting conservation impact by building and leading WWF-Indonesia’s Conservation Program and ensuring coherent integration of thematic and geographical programs as presented in the Strategic Plan. He/she provides advice to the CEO on pertinent conservation issues in the country. He/she leads the strategic and tactical direction of WWF-Indonesia’s conservation agenda in partnership with key international, governmental, and local partners. He/she will engage with communities and civil society to support them in taking ownership of the future of natural capital management. 

Working closely with the CEO, he/she supports the engagement with multilateral and bilateral institutions to influence policies around key conservation issues. He/she also mediates the WWF network’s engagement (through Practices) to maintain the alignment of WWF-Indonesia's critical contributions to the WWF Global Goals. He/she is a member of the WWF-Indonesia Management team and works cooperatively with the Global Conservation team of WWF Network in providing strategic leadership in delivering highly effective conservation results by creating and putting into action a strategic, pertinent, and innovative plan for the organization that will effectively contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in Indonesia and is in line with WWF practices and global conservation. 

The Chief Conservation Officer will closely coordinate with Program Directors in developing an integrated Conservation Strategy, Program, and Action Plan. Ensure strategic integration of the four pillars (conservation management, sustainable land/sea use planning, sector reform, and sustainable financing) in all programs, and directly lobby policymakers at the national and provincial level (government officials, politicians, public figures, NGO leaders, corporate leaders). 

She/he is also responsible for the overall development and implementation of the WWF-Indonesia Strategic Plan through strategic conservation approaches and leading all conservation programs. The scope of implementation range from identifying priority projects, and developing a high-impact conservation program,  to assessing new opportunities to enhance the conservation goals in Indonesia, ensuring focus on the delivery of WWF-Indonesia’s strategic and programmatic outcomes, and ensuring the targets and milestones of conservation program are in line with WWF Practices and the global conservation priorities.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A master's degree or its equivalent in the relevant discipline (conservation, environment, or natural resource management) is a minimum requirement. A degree in business administration or management or additional academic training would be advantageous. 
  • At least 8 years in a senior conservation leadership role with a proven track record of managing and leading teams, developing complex programs, and delivering impact.
  • Experience working in an international organization.
  • Proven track record of managing internal and external multicultural stakeholders to influence and drive change; 
  • Proven track record of successfully developing, leading, and managing projects in conservation, natural resource management, or other related fields. 
  • Proven knowledge and/or experience in the non-profit sector, specifically in conservation organizations.
  • Excellent knowledge of the international development and conservation community in Indonesia and the region, as well as pertinent policy concerns.
  • Excellent knowledge of conservation and development challenges in Indonesia and/or the region.
  • Solid personality and the ability to constructively inspire the team to meet challenging goals.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to set priorities, complete work with minimal supervision, and able to meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to network, develop, and maintain strong relationships at all levels, both internally and with local communities, government agencies, the non-profit sector, the scientific community, the business community, including the global community, and the WWF network. 
  • Fluency in English.
  • Able to build strong relationships and drive action in a collaborative way; to engage with people driven by facts and data and those driven by feelings and beliefs. 
  • Team builder - able to build effective teams committed to organizational goals and foster collaboration within the team. At the same time, willing to take direct responsibility and be personally accountable for performance. 
  • Proactive and thoughtful but results-orientated – exhibiting a strong drive for results and success, while being open to discussion and persuasion. 
  • Adaptability – able to understand the bigger picture, and demonstrate the capacity to adjust successfully to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and change, so as to achieve objectives.
