GIZ Indonesia for the Forests and Climate Change Program (FORCLIME) Project: Trainees Program for Papua/Southwest Papua/South Papua Provinces

Since 2019, FORCLIME has been supporting the implementation of an internship programme for students from universities in Tanah Papua. The objective of this programme is to assist with the implementation of forestry development projects and human resource development efforts in Papua. In 2019, 13 students from Cenderawasih and Papua Universities participated in the FORCLIME internship programme. In 2020, there were 5 students from Papua University (UNIPA) and 1 student from the University of Ottow Geissler. In 2021, there were 5 students from Cenderawasih University and 2 students from IPB University participating in the programme, while in 2022, there was one student from Cenderawasih University, two students from the University of Ottow Geissler Papua, one student from Musamus University in Merauke and six students from the University of Papua.

Since the end of 2021, FORCLIME has been engaged in several activities to support the empowerment of villages that are assisted or recommended by FORCLIME partners. Starting April 2022, FORCLIME has also recruited nine (9) community advisors to assist selected villages in Tanah Papua together with FORCLIME's partners.

To provide the interns with wider experiences, they will be involved in various activities such as Forestry Planning, Social Forestry, and Conservation conducted together with FORCLIME's local partners, which include government institutions as well as community groups in Tanah Papua. This will provide the interns with the opportunity to learn more about sustainable forest management, land use planning, community empowerment, and other related topics. Through this internship programme, FORCLIME aims to support the local partners and promote village empowerment initiatives in FORCLIME-supported villages, while providing valuable training and experience for university students in Tanah Papua.

This year, all interns who participate in the FORCLIME Internship Programme will be posted in the offices of project partners who are related to the pilot villages. This will provide them with more focused training and practical experience related to the specific needs of the villages. Through this arrangement, the interns will be able to participate more actively in the project implementation process, as they will be working directly with the project partners and local communities. This will give them an opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in real-life situations, while at the same time contributing to the sustainable development of the pilot villages. Overall, this arrangement is expected to enhance the effectiveness of the FORCLIME Traineeship Programme and provide more meaningful learning experiences for the trainee.

To support the Provincial Advisor for the implementation of the FORCLIME programme, we are seeking up to 7 (seven) trainees for the following universities in Tanah Papua*):

4 (two) trainees for Jayapura District, Papua Province

2 (two) trainees for Sorong Selatan and Tambrauw District, as well as Sorong, Papua Barat Daya Province
