Mercy Corps Indonesia works to address the root causes of poverty to improve the quality of life for disaster and conflict affected, urban, and coastal communities. Current programs promote sustainable economic development through integrated, entrepreneurial self-help programs and skills training, with a particular focus on health, nutrition, and environmental development for underprivileged communities.
Mercy Corps is currently implementing BEST (Breastfeeding Education Support and Training) project as model institution that support environment for early initiation and exclusive breastfeeding practices in health facilities DKI Jakarta, Indonesia.
The objectives of the project are:
1). Support creation of an appropriate facility environment, established the required operating systems and develop the necessary human resources to provide the basis for a model institution for supportive, consumer-driven and self-sustain breastfeeding care which is affordable for middle low class market.
2.) Support the initial operation phase of the center, through support for the training and MSG motivators and facilitate social marketing of the project to the public and healthcare providers with the aim of a self-sufficient center by the end of the project.
As approaching the end of BEST project on 31st April 2011, there are many best practices, lessons learned and challenges from this pioneer work that need to be well documented to ensure better quality for similar project in the future.
Hence, BEST Project would like to hire an external evaluator to document progress made towards achievement of project activities, prospect sustainability of breastfeeding center that will be incorporated in final report
The objective of the evaluation:
1. To document project progress and achievement;
2. To document learning from stake holders in the breastfeeding center implementation;
3. To assess the sustainability of the breastfeeding center business model;
Consultant will carry out these following activities:
1. Gathered data / information*
2. Develop tools for qualitative assessment
3. Conduct qualitative assessment
4. Analyze data from information gathered
5. Prepare final report in English
*Data will be collected through project documentations (BEST project mid-term report, progress to date, business consultant report) , in-depth interviews and observations.
Consultant shall perform in-depth interviews to internal Koja hospitals (management staffs, breastfeeding center staffs, support staffs and other related departments.
Consultant shall evaluate Center’s business model implementation
1. Presentation of key findings to Mercy Corps
2. Final report to be submitted to donor
Final report will be considered as final once it has been thoroughly reviewed and it is free of spelling grammar errors, clearly articulate key findings, challenges and recommendations
