Child Welfare Protection Coordinator

Islamic Relief Worldwide is an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established in Birmingham, UK in 1984. Islamic Relief has a consultative status (special category) with the economic and Social Council of the United Nations is full member of British Overseas NGOs for Development (BOND) and a signatory to the code of conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief. It seeks to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities through relief and development programmes. Islamic Relief Indonesia is part of Islamic Relief Worldwide which has been working in Indonesia since 2003. Islamic Relief Indonesia provides service and support to the communities in mandate areas, based on the MoU with Department of Home Affairs. There are some initiative sectors under Emergency and Development program such as Shelter, Water and Sanitation, Health and Nutrition, Livelihood, Orphans, Education, Marines Fisheries, and Disaster Preparedness and Response. Through these sectors, Islamic Relief Indonesia plays significant role in alleviating the suffering and poverty of the world’s poorest people.

Islamic Relief seeks to hire committed and experienced persons for the following positions:

CHILD WELFARE PROTECTION COORDINATOR

Base at : Jakarta
Contract Duration : 6 months (Extendable)
Frequent Official Travel

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. PurposeThe purpose of this post is to help manage and develop Islamic Relief’s Indonesia Child welfare programmes. Main duties include managing and developing all aspects of project identification, preparation, implementation, development, monitoring and evaluation, support and Training.

B. Specific Role:
1. Develop and present proposals in co-ordination with the country director and head of programme regarding various areas of intervention in Indonesia.
2. Initiate projects once IR Headquarters has given approval.
3. Be responsible for providing direction and management to project co-ordinator/officers and related field staff, including the development of job descriptions and work plans.
4. Supervise and prepare daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports on project specific activities.
5. Be responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of assigned projects.
6. Co-ordinate with local and international NGOs and other official agencies.
7. Provide appropriate training activities to programme and project staff in collaboration with the Head Of Programme and Country Director
8. Be responsible for ensuring project staff grievances and disciplinary matters are fairly dealt with in accordance with Islamic Relief policy and code of conduct.
9. Outline the resource requirement of projects and periodically assess their appropriateness to meeting short and long-term needs.
10. Work to ensure that Institutional learning takes place, which will include:
- Putting in place and promote for the mechanism of information exchange and learning from experience within the NGO.
- Creating and maintaining a database of other NGOs, agencies and government departments working in the same field.
- Maintaining regular visits to other organizations to exchange information and maintain lively contacts and relations.
11. To establish/develop database that will help the office to build long term programme activities
12. Monitor and Evaluate existing Orphans Programmes.
13. Provide technical assistance and advice in the production of orphans (OTO) reports & bio-data’s, standardising them throughout the region.
14. Provide technical assistance in development of OGF projects
15. Provide training in Child Protection
16. Provide guidance on the strategic development and expansion of orphan’s programmes.
17. Will be the overall Designated Child Protection Officer for Indonesia, which would include responding to any specific concerns, raised in the field office.

D. Person specification

Experience / Education·
A minimum of five years experience of working for an international NGO.
· A proven record of designing & implementing development programmes
· Experience in programme planning, monitoring, evaluation and appraisal
· Good understanding of development and relief issues as well as appreciation of cultural and social differences.
· Understanding and commitment to principles of child rights and child protection Language: Excellent written and spoken English
IT skills: Excellent skills and knowledge of Windows, Office and Internet applications.
