COMMUNITY OFFICER

The Nature Conservancy is a conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people.

Currently we are searching for a qualified candidate to fill the position of:

COMMUNITY OFFICER

TNC has, since year 2005, provide support to the Berau District government in sustainable marine resources management, in policy, surveillance and law enforcement, data collection and processing, and capacity building for the community.

In capacity building for the community, TNC supported numerous community groups engaged in marine resource management, such as patrol group, eco-tourism management group, fishermen, micro-credit groups, ladies groups, and others.

The Community Officer will be responsible to facilitate the formation and mentoring of the community groups mentioned above.  He/she will assist the outreach team in assisting the community at the field level to contribute to Berau District Zoning Plan and in building awareness of Marine Protected Area concept.

Specific deliverables include:

  *   Compiling community's inputs regarding RZWP3K in Kasai village
  *   Compiling community’s inputs regarding RZWP3K in Pegat Batumbuk village
  *   Compiling community’s inputs regarding RZWP3K in Teluk Semanting village
  *   Organizing Reef Resilience Training for community with TNC
  *   Compiling community’s inputs regarding RZWP3K in Tanjung Batu village
  *   Developing draft 0 of Conservation Action Planning (CAP) with Reef Resilience principles in Tanjung Batu village
  *   Compiling community’s inputs regarding RZWP3K in Payung-payung, Bohe Bukut, Bohe Silian, and Teluk Alulu villages
  *   Revising RZWP3K of Kasai village based on TNC’s inputs
  *   Revising RZWP3K of Pegat Batumbuk village based on TNC’s inputs
  *   Revising RZWP3K of Teluk Semanting village based on TNC’s inputs
  *   Revising RZWP3K of Tanjung Batu village based on TNC’s inputs
  *   Revising RZWP3K of Payung-payung, Bohe Bukut, Bohe Silian, and Teluk Alulu villages based on TNC’s inputs
  *   Revising draft 0 of CAP in Tanjung Batu village based on TNC’s inputs
  *   Compiling draft 1 of CAP in Tanjung Batu village
The Community Officer will report to the Outreach Specialist and will be based in Berau field office.


Basic Qualifications:

·         High school diploma and 1 year’s training in science-related field or related experience in land management

·         Experience operating various types of equipment
·         Experience performing physical work

Requirements:

·         1 – 2 years training in science-related field or related experience in land management
·         Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems
·         Ability to follow instructions from colleagues
·         Ability to perform physical work, sometime under adverse conditions or in inclement weather
·         Good facilitation skills
