JOB AD: Communications Officer (2 year Contract) with MSF in Hong Kong

he international medical humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans
Frontières (MSF) in Hong Kong is looking for suitable candidate for
the following position to be based in Hong Kong:

Communications Officer (2 year Contract)

JOB PURPOSE

In conjunction with communication strategies of MSF-Hong Kong, to
promote awareness and provide information of MSF's mandate and
worldwide activities with local and regional media and the general
public in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries.

The candidate will be stationed in Hong Kong and work with the
Communications team of MSF-Hong Kong.

Reports to: Senior Communications Officer, or in his/her absence to
the Regional Communications Manager

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Media

· Establishes and maintains media network in Indonesia and
other Southeast Asian countries

· Organises meetings with Indonesian media in coordination with
Senior Communications Officer

· Pitches media in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian
countries regularly for coverage of MSF's work and worldwide
humanitarian crises

· Prepares press materials to be disseminated to the Indonesian
and other Southeast Asian media

Events

· Contribute to planning and arrangement of small scale public
events in Jakarta or major cities in other Southeast Asian countries

Online Mass Communication

· Pitches online media hosted in Indonesia and other Southeast
Asian countries, including websites of media organisations and news
section of portal sites, for coverage of MSF's work and values in
close collaboration with Web Editor

· Establishes connection with important bloggers who have
interest to MSF's work in coordination with the Web Editor

Internal Communications

· Provides communication support to other departments, board
members and ASEAN Representative of MSF when necessary and if available

· Circulates relevant MSF information on a regular basis among
all staff in the MSF-Hong Kong office

· Conducts communication briefings and debriefings with field
workers

· Properly documents the experiences learnt by MSF-Hong Kong in
public communications in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries,
and help to develop a sustainable system of working with the Indonesian
media that can be continued after the contract ends

Requirements

· University graduate with a minimum of 3 years'
journalistic or PR experience

· Strong interest and knowledge in world affairs

· Good knowledge of local and regional media in Indonesia, and
preferably other Southeast Asian countries

· Experience in organising events is an asset

· Commitment to the aims and values of Médecins Sans
Frontières

· Ability to work independently but also a good team player

· Fluency in spoken and written English and Bahasa Indonesia is
a must, proficiency in one more language commonly used in the Southeast
Asian countries is preferable

· Good presentation skills

· Ability to work under pressure and to respect deadlines

· Flexible working hours
