USAID-IUWASH: Sanitation Marketing Specialist, based in South Sulawesi (SMS-SS)

JOB VACANCY

The Indonesia Urban Water Sanitation and Hygiene (IUWASH) project is a sixty-month program (2011 – 2016) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented under the leadership of DAI. IUWASH works with government, the private sector, NGOs, community
groups and other stakeholders to improve access to safe water supply and sanitation in Indonesia’s urban areas. The overall goal of IUWASH is to assist the Government of Indonesia (GOI) in making significant progress in achieving its safe water and sanitation Millennium Development Goal (MDG)
targets by expanding access to these services.


To achieve the above, assistance provided by the project is divided under three main technical components, including:
  1. Mobilizing demand for WatSan service delivery;
  2. Improving and expanding capacity for WatSan service delivery; and
  3. Strengthening policy and the financial enabling environment for  improved water supply and      sanitation service delivery.

IUWASH will apply different approaches and interventions with its local partners, such as local Water utilities, local and national government institutions, NGOs and communities to address water, sanitation and hygiene. To achieve these objectives IUWASH need high caliber incumbent to fill the positions of :



Sanitation Marketing Specialist, based in South Sulawesi, code (SMS-SS)

The Sanitation Marketing Specialist will conduct sanitation marketing programs for target stakeholders (PEMDA, community organization and/or local institutions -like UPTD-) to increase access to improved sanitation services. S/he has responsibility for implementing these activities through formal and/or on-the-job training, supportive supervision, mentoring, exchanges, etc. 



Tasks

Her/his responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

·         Assist and implement innovative sanitation marketing/promotion program with BCC team directed at increasing sanitation access, including development training materials and modules

·         Lead implementation of sanitation marketing activities at city level, including supervise/ monitor IUWASH programs implemented by subcontractors and/or grantee on sanitation promotion

·         Collaborate with regional BCC team in linking the sanitation marketing with general behavior change programs in target communities, including planning and scaling up of successful pilots.

·         Work with regional Urban Sanitation and Governance Specialist in linking sanitation marketing programs with the institutional development of local sanitation management units (UPTD), including sanitation promotion strategy, data collection and field documentation for all sanitation systems, but with emphasis on communal, small scale sewerage and septage collection systems



Minimum Qualifications:

·         Minimum bachelor’s (preferable master’s degree) in a relevant field such as environmental engineering; social science; marketing

·         At least 5 years experience in social and/or sanitation marketing programs;

·         Familiar with urban sanitation and hygiene programs in Indonesia;

·         Experience working for/with local governments and local communities;

·         Ability to understand, speak, and write reasonable English;

·         Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends (exceptions), and travel within Indonesia.
