Deutsche
Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)GmbH is a German International
Cooperation
enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. GIZ promotes complex reforms and changes processes. Its
corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions on a sustainable
basis. GIZ has been working in Indonesia since 1975.
In
Southeast Asia, the agri-food sector is of key significance and has the
potential to become the “kitchen of the world”. The domestic and international
demand for safe food products of greater quality and quantity, along with the
need to manage scarce natural resources, drives agricultural development
policies towards the concept of "sustainable agri-food systems".
Global and regional policy emphasis is therefore put on the increase of
sustainable agricultural production. This is derived from the change of
consumer preferences and industry interest towards food safety as well as
increasingly strict requirements for the export of agricultural goods. The
sustainability of agrifood systems - in its economic, social and environmental
dimensions - will be a key factor for competitiveness in complex global
agri-food markets.
