IUWASH (Indonesia Urban Water Sanitation and Hygiene) Program is the
program for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene of Indonesia Urban which lasted for
five years, which has the term for five years, funded by the US Agency for
International Development (USAID). IUWASH makes the effort to assist the
Government of Indonesia to make a progress to reach the Millennium Development
Goals by expanding the access to clean water and safe sanitation services.
Developing the access to water and sanitation services for the poor Indonesian
urban, especially those having very limited access to such services is the
IUWASH main goal. The expected results are: (a) Two million people living in urban
areas have access to safe drinking water services; (b) 250,000 people living in
urban areas have access to adequate sanitation; and (c) the cost of water per
unit borne by low-income people is decreased at least 20%.
Based on the results of the study and general analysis has been done by
IUWASH on all PDAMs are becoming partners IUWASH shows, that the entire
resources of raw water PDAMs have experienced a serious decrease in discharge
and quality of raw water resources, so if no protection measures and prevention
are done , then PDAMs can not provide water service to its customers in the
future. Problems of discharge reduction and quality of water resources will
increase by climate change events including rainfall patterns that will be
shorter with high rainfall intensity (heavy rain or storms) and the incidence
of drought are getting longer and more dry. As a result of a combination of
changes in land use and climate change in the form of rainfall intensity, it
will affect stability of the slopes and land which can lead to the occurrence
of landslides which may damage key infrastructure, including raw water distribution facilities.
Total processing capacity of PDAM Kab Bandung is currently 740 L / s
(with 76% utilized), of which the sources are surface water 80%, springs 12%
and shallow wells 8%. One of the major constraints faced by PDAM Kab Bandung to
provide clean water services to the community is the availability and
continuity aspects of proper raw water supply to be treated. One of the recommendations
of the CCVA study conducted by IUWASH is the long-term adaptation by optimizing
the utilization of surface water as raw water and evaluation on high-risk
infrastructure. The construction of a pre-sedimentation basin in Nagrak intake
will provide a solution in addressing the existing problems, namely the service
continuity. This
activity is relation with IUWASH outcomes
HR-1 (Increased access to safe water supply) and IC-4 (local government
institutions implementing climate change adaptation measures).

TECHNICAL DATA OF NAGRAK INTAKE
Nagrak intake is one of
the raw water sources used by PDAM Kab Bandung to provide water services to the
Bandung surrounding area. Geographically Nagrak intake is situated at
07o06'81.41" S and 107o55'17.45" E, and administratively it is
situated in Nagrak Village in sub-watershed of Cisangkuy. According to its
topography, most areas of sub-watershed of Cisangkuy, Kab Bandung is
mountainous or hilly areas with the altitude vary from 630 to 2,602 meters
above sea level. Geologically, the area of sub-watershed of Cisangkuy Kab
