Background

Indonesia’s community-driven development program, (formerly called PNPM, now “Dana Desa”Peduli), is a keystone of Indonesia’s poverty alleviation effort, and one of the largest programs of its kind globally. The Peduli program was started in 2011 as a way to bridge marginalized communities through CSO networks.  In its second phase (2014-16) the Peduli Program has a more explicit focus on promoting social inclusion as an approach to address economic inclusion and poverty reduction with 6 pillars (target groups): people living with disabilities, victims of gross human rights violation, discriminated religious minorities, Waria (transgender) group, indigenous and remote local people reliant on natural resources, and vulnerable children and youth.

Social inclusion as an approach is dynamic, and responsive to the very localized context of exclusion faced by each target group. This creates obvious challenges evaluating the effects of the Peduli Program, as each partners is responsive to the specific parameters of social exclusion faced by each beneficiary group, and fosters relationships between excluders and the excluded, looking for ways to build recognition and respect over time.

For the analysis of the Baseline Study (access to service, income, empowerment, community, participation, perception of social acceptance and more), we are in search for a qualified statistician. The duration of the assignment is approximately 7 days, to be performed end of August, beginning of September 2015.

The statistician will help us in the following:

Higher-order statistical analysis, logistic regression analysis, will be performed to answer a wide range of questions including:

·         What is the likelihood that an individual from each of the six pillars is involved in solidarity/identity-based/advocacy groups?

·         What is the likelihood that an individual from each of the six pillars has participated in social programs, skills training?

·         What factors influence the likelihood that an individual from each of the six pillars report violence and discrimination?

Requirements:

·    At least 3-5 years of experience in quantitative research using statistical method;

·    Sound knowledge and skills in statistical method for qualitative and quantitative research; especially regression with qualitative variables;

·    Sound skills on computing  and interpreting qualitative response of Regression Models

·    Good skills on the use of IS/IT, preferably well mastering Microsoft Excel and statistical software : SPSS, Econometric Views, List-Rel, etc.
·    Affinity with social sciences and/or desire to work on poverty and marginalized communities issues.
·    Preferably have a background with DFAT, but not obligated.
