About WRI Indonesia
WRI Indonesia is national entity (Yayasan) associated with the World Resources Institute (WRI), a global environmental research organization that turns big ideas into action at the nexus of environment, economic opportunity, and human well-being. WRI work with various stakeholders in the natural resources sector to support policy and management that are both profitable and sustainable. WRI work with leaders in more than 50 countries for more than 30 years, with offices in Brazil, China, Europe, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States.
Launched in early 2014, WRI Indonesia builds on WRI’s 10-year history in the country, and strengthens our impact on the ground. In the short-to-medium term, WRI Indonesia aims to expand its presence and portfolio to include projects in the climate, energy, as well as city and transportation programs.
 
Overview 
The Program Director is responsible for the direction and coordination of the WRI in Indonesia program. The Program Director in his/her capacity is responsible for the development and implementation of all programming in Indonesia, overseeing the development of high quality, innovative programs, and ensuring the quality of those programs. The Program Director will also work closely with WRI-Global and others to strategically grow the WRI Indonesia portfolio, represent WRI and liaise with government counterparts in achieving its objectives. 
WRI is committed to ensuring gender equity across our program portfolios. As such, the Program Director is expected to incorporate attention to gender where appropriate.
Responsibilities
The Program Director's main areas of responsibility will include the following:
Program Management
  • Manage initiative directors, delegating authority, ensuring they are effective and supported, and ensuring planned deliverables and results are achieved.
  • Oversee overall budgetary performance of the Program.
  • Engage fellow WRI senior managers on institutional strategic and operational issues to advance the interests of the Program and of WRI as a whole.
  • Review draft publications, blogs, press releases, and other forms of high-profile communication being developed by Program staff to ensure they meet WRI’s high standards for quality.
  • Oversight and management of the implementation of projects run by the WRI Indonesia office
  • Coordinate internal and external program/project evaluations as necessary and ensure the execution of high-quality baseline, periodic, and final evaluations as necessary
  • Together with Country Director, meet regularly with donors and stakeholders, to ensure issues are promptly resolved and to enhance communications.
  • Ensure project activities are compliant with contract and other relevant regulations and policies.
Outreach
  • Serve as the primary “voice” of WRI’s Indonesia Program.
  • Give presentations at public speaking events, international forum, one-on-one meetings, and within WRI.
  • Write briefs, publish blogs, and conduct media interviews in order to set public and private sector agendas, influence decision-maker perspectives, and communicate the WRI Indonesia Program’s findings and recommendations.
Strategic Planning
  • Together with other key stakeholders, provide strategic vision and direction to the program.
  • Take a lead role in developing program strategies and annual plans, ensuring relevance to local context and global objectives, cost effectiveness, innovation, high quality programs and impact.
  • Ensure coordination of all technical input to strategy, proposals, and reports.
Program Design and Technical Assistance
  • Ensure that the relevant thematic areas of the program unit are coordinated, integrated and support each other to optimize programs and projects
  • Ensure that proposals and programs adhere to WRI’s values, global strategies, high-quality, international standards of quality and principle of cost-effectiveness, with inputs from relevant technical staff and advisers
  • Ensure appropriate levels of technical assistance and capacity building is provided to partners
Staff Management, Mentorship, and Development
  • Attract, motivate, and retain world-class Program staff.
  • Ensure that all staff understand and are able to perform their role in each program unit
  • Manage program staff; define expectations, provide leadership and technical support as needed, and evaluate direct reports regularly
  • Ensure the recruitment, training, and promotion of staff as appropriate and ensures availability of appropriate professional development opportunities for staff
  • Incorporate staff development strategies and Performance Management Systems into team building process. Establishes result based, qualitative follow-up system
Fundraising
  • Actively cultivate and manage relationships with existing donors, securing renewals.
  • Identify and cultivate new donors to expand the Program’s funding base
  • Write fundraising proposals and refine those written by staff
  • Mentor staff to broaden their fundraising skills, help them manage existing fundraising relationships, and cultivate new funding prospects.
 
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive professional work experience in development and project implementation with at least 8 year’s experience in managing multi-projects, preferably in Environment.
  • At least Master degree in management, public administration, natural or social sciences
  • A good understanding of Indonesia’s climate policy and sustainable development will be an advantage.
  • Strong network of relationships and partnerships with governments, donors, civil society, and other stakeholders engaged in sustainable development policy and practice.
  • Recognized expertise and track record of publication in sustainable development or low emission development in the context of Indonesia or similar geographical setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully motivate and manage teams to reach their full potential and achieve on-the-ground results.
  • Strong team player with ability to work across institutional departments/programs.
  • Proven ability to provide vision and superb strategic thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to secure funding from donors.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate clearly, passionately, and compellingly to a wide range of audiences, especially high-level decision-makers from government, the private sector, and civil society.
  • Strong analytical research skills are required.
  • Strong writing skills for both technical and general audiences are essential. Oral presentation skills a plus.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized thinker with an ability to juggle multiple priorities, handle assignments independently, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility, sense of humor, breadth of interests, and willingness to explore unfamiliar issues all are qualities that will be looked for during the hiring process.
  • International experience is an advantage. Foreign language skills are a plus.
  • Excellent writing skills (e.g., research briefs, blogs, proposals).
  • Experience overseeing and managing budgets.
  • Ability to travel, especially internationally, at least 25% of time.
 
Final candidates will be required to take a writing test. Also required to produce two writing samples
