Vacancy Announcement "Climate and Weather Information Services Specialist"

1. Background 

DAI, an international consulting firm based in the United States, is currently accepting applications from candidates for a Climate and Weather Information Services Specialist position in Jakarta to support the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Adaptasi Perubahan Iklim dan Ketangguhan Project in Indonesia (APIK).  APIK will support the Government of Indonesia to strengthen climate and disaster resilience, working in an integrated manner from the national level down to the community level. APIK will help to mainstream climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction into national and sub-national governance frameworks, build the capacity of local communities and the private sector to address climate change and weather-related natural hazards, and support the use of information for climate and disaster risk management among key stakeholders.

Task 3 focuses on the collection, packaging, and dissemination of climate and weather information (CWI) services. Better climate and weather information systems are fundamental to fostering place-based resilience across the archipelago, saving lives in the near term (i.e. disaster risk reduction) while supporting better planning and public investment in the medium to long term (i.e. climate change adaptation).

APIK needs Climate & Weather Information Services Specialist to support Climate Information Services Adviser Tasks in order to pursue to Task 3’s goal.

2. Objectives and Duties:

For this assignment, the Climate and Weather Information Services Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks: 

Develop Module, SoW template, Budget Template, and Training Material for CWI Training for Local Government Agencies, Communities and Private Sector
Develop Map for CWIS Display
Data processing & finalize the CWIS Aru Assessment Report
Support CWIS Monitoring & Evaluation Data & Report
Develop Otoklim & Website BMKG Module & Training Material
Organize event on BMKG Pusat (FGDs, Meetings, etc.)
Supporting all activities related to CWIS Strengthening as described on CWIS Roadmap Document especially achievement for TLR 3b & HLR 6

3. Qualifications: 

Min. Bachelor Degree (Preferred in geosciences), others are welcome if have strong knowledge or experience below.  
Min. 1 year experienced in Climate Change / Disasters / Water Resources Issues
Understand the existing Climate Change / Disaster Risk Reduction Issues (Flood, Landslide, Sea Level Rise, Drought, Water Scarcity & Forest Fire)
Having good communication skill
Having GIS skill is advantage
Having ICT Knowledge & Skill is advantage
Experienced in Climate & Weather Information is advantage

Jakarta, Indonesia 

5. Reporting: 

The Climate and Weather Information Services Specialist will report to Climate Information Services Advisor
