Tetra Tech ARD is currently accepting expressions of interest for the
Forest Governance Specialist, Jakarta based on our USAID LESTARI
project. USAID’s LESTARI project supports the Government of Indonesia to
reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and conserve biodiversity in
carbon rich and biologically significant forest
and mangrove ecosystems.
Job Summary: The Forest Governance Specialist (FGS)
is responsible for ensuring strong and effective communication and
coordination between the LESTARI project and Indonesia’s forest
governance community in order to ensure impact and amplification
of LESTARI results. This includes the Ministry of Environment &
Forestry, including but not limited to DGs for Climate Change, Protected
Areas and Conservation Management, and Social Forestry and
Environmental Partnership, Sustainable Production Forest Management,
Watershed Control and Protection Forest, Forestry and Environmental
Planning at the national level; BAPPENAS; the NGO community, the private
sector, and others. Key to this work is ensuring effective two-way
communication between LESTARI landscape level initiatives
and national level policy reform and financial support. Ultimately, the
FGS ensures ownership and pride for LESTARI among partners at all
levels. One of the main tools to achieve such shared ownership among
stakeholders, will be regular reference will be made
to the set of generic and customized landscape maps to ensure that the
“what” of support will be complemented by the “where”, enabling
appropriate clustering of stakeholders for more effective action.
Relevant results of such engagement will be conveyed to
the GIS facility to improve maps. Every effort will be made to
encourage stakeholders to take ownership of the landscape maps as tools
to achieve their shared goals with LESTARI. The FGS reports to the
Biodiversity Conservation Coordinator.
Requirements include previous experience in a
similar position for USAID project or other international donor
projects; at least 10 years’ experience facilitating forestry governance
issues in Indonesia, including decentralization, natural
resources management, protected areas management and/or climate change;
has specific experience with forest, land-use and climate change issues
in Indonesia; proven networks with Indonesia’s forestry governance
community; effective analytical skills to build
links between different levels of governance; proficient in using
computers with related knowledge of software programs and internet; must
also have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful
environment; native fluency in spoken and written
Indonesian; professional competency in spoken and written English;
familiar with USAID procedures and regulations is an advantage; willing
to work and travel intensively and extensively in the field; and
demonstrated ability to play collegial and leadership
roles working on multi-disciplinary teams. University degree in related
field required.
