UN Women Background:
 
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
 
 
Unit/ Project Background:
 
The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is used as a guide for governance programming and is geared towards some foci including; building knowledge and skills within the government and civil society to put into place gender responsive laws, policies, plans in line with international human rights standards, and the institutional structures and processes that ensure implementation of these;
·         Governance gender responsive planning and budgeting in the national and sub-national level
·        Engendering justice systems to promote women’s human rights at the national and sub-national level
·        Promoting women's effective leadership, including among excluded groups of women, and their meaningful participation in democratic governance
·        Ensuring that decision-making processes are participatory, responsive, equitable and inclusive for all women
 
Under the overall responsibility of UN Women Country Representative and the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer for Governance, the intern will be expected to provide support to the programme support functions of UN Women. Description of Responsibilities & Learning Objectives:

 
1.       Supports effective implementaion of Governance programme and initiatives
·         Complies, summarizes, and presents basic information/data on specific project and related topics or issues.
·         Review programme documents for completeness and compliance with relevant rules and procedure prior to submission for final approval and signature.
·         Implement programme standard operating procedure in line with the UN Women’s rules and regulation including UN women Programme and Operations Manual.
 
2.       Support the effective reporting on progress of programme implementation
·         Tracking of delivery rate of programme, review programme budget and financial report submitted by partners in timely manners.
·         Assist in reviewing programme financial report from partners and preparation of information for programme report as part of monitoring evaluation.
·         Support the preparation of annual and quarterly workplan as well as project meetings, operational and financial reporting of the programme.
 
3.       Provide administrative support to the programme unit to ensure achievement of result based management.
·         Coordinate programme and administrative matters related to the organization meetings, workshops and conference including contracting vendors, organizing logistics and travel arrangements.
·         Assist in preparation of project/programme budgets, preparation of contracts and other administrative documents for implementation of programme activities.
·         Maintain an effective filling system, both hard and soft copy version; maintain an effective tracking system for contracts. 
4.       Support strategic partnerships, communications and the implementation of resource mobilisation as required.

Qualifications
 
Education:
·         The intern must have studies in Public Administration, Management, Economics, Accounting, Gender Studies, Social Sciences or other similar subject at the university level.
·         Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
 
Language:
·         Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and Bahasa Indonesia are required.
 
Experience
·         Relevant working or organizational experience in the field of event management, finance and administration is preferable.
·         Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS. Word, Excel, etc).
 
Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women.

Note:
In July 2010, the United nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment

UN Women Internship Policy:
1.) Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
(a)    Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b)    Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
(c)    Have graduated with a university degree (as (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
2.) UN Women internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
3..) All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
4.) UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
5.) The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
6.) Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
7.) The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan, proof of school enrollment, a scanned copy of his/her passport, two letters of recommendation, and application
