national organization that aims to be a strong, local, and
self-sustaining voice for children in Indonesia. To this end, SC
Indonesia has been designated as a “Prospect Member”. As
‘Prospect
Member’ Indonesia has been identified as part of the next way of new
member development, which focuses on strengthening and localizing our
voice for children in strategic middle income countries. Indonesia has
been authorized by member ballot to start fundraising
locally as a first step towards building a financially sustainable
local organization. Future work will also involve developing a strong
local governance structure and building key partnerships with local
government, the private sector, local civil society
among others. Success of the pilot phase will set the Indonesia on a
pathway to full membership. We are currently seeking to fill the
following position:
HUMANITARIAN ADVOCACY SENIOR MANAGER
1 position based in
Jakarta Country Office
ROLE PURPOSE :
The
Humanitarian Advocacy Senior Manager will implement the humanitarian
advocacy strategy for YSTC’s emergency portfolio,
linking humanitarian advocacy to the national advocacy framework and
existing advocacy priorities. Using a Child Rights lens, and focusing on
Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), she/he will deliver effective advocacy
and lobbying utilizing programmatic learning
and evidence, to ensure optimal functioning of the Sulawesi response.
The function will be a focal person for advocacy enquiries and work in
the Response Team and from Save the Children International and
individual Save the Children members. The function will
be part of the Humanitarian Team in order to ensure that key advocacy
messages and strategies are informed by the response. She/he will
support the Sulawesi-based Communications and Advocacy Manager to
deliver effective localized advocacy, ensuring harmony
and consistency with national level advocacy. He/she will be able to be
deployed to any other humanitarian areas to provide support for the
delivery of advocacy work.
The
post holder will work closely with the Technical Advisors team under
PDQ on updating advocacy objectives and
work plans, in collaboration with YSTC Advocacy and Campaign team as
well as Media and Communication team (Director and Senior Manager) in
particular when engaging Government of Indonesia. The post holder shares
the accountability to build the most positive
and affirming work environment possible and ensure that the management,
staffing and culture of the organization are suitably aligned with the
mission, evolving goals and strategic ambitions of the Member
Accountability Framework.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :
- Bachelor degree or at least 8 years working in advocacy in an area of social development or equivalent
- Prior experience working in an emergency response contexts ideal
- Significant prior experience working in advocacy on humanitarian issues, child rights, human rights, or development issues, preferably in emergency response contexts or fragile states
- Experience of influencing and policy advocacy work including lobbying, policy development and information provision in humanitarian issues at national, regional and/or international level
- Excellent skills in advocating towards government officials, humanitarian actors and UN agencies in developing countries
- Experience of and strong skills in developing and implementing humanitarian advocacy strategies
- Strong communication (written and spoken), and interpersonal skills in English, with experience in managing multicultural teams
- Good attention to detail
- Extensive knowledge of child rights and international humanitarian law
- High-level analytical and strategic thinking skills and strong research skills
- Cultural awareness and ability to build relationships quickly with a wide variety of people
- Patience, adaptability, flexibility, and ability to improvise and remain responsive and to communicate clearly and effectively under pressure
- Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organise a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities
- Experience in working with other NGOs and coordinating inter-agency or coalition advocacy activities, strategies and products
