Yayasan Humanis dan Inovasi Sosial (Yayasan Hivos) is an Indonesian organization affiliated with Hivos, born out of an active collaboration between Netherlands based Hivos and several like-minded Indonesian academics and civil society leaders who subscribe to the values and mission of Hivos. The purpose is to promote humanist values in the social, health, and cultural fields which is defined in terms of the ability for each individual to assess and decide independently and responsibly, the right to freedom, dignity and a passion to create a just and tolerant society.
Yayasan seeks qualified candidates for the position of:
Title : Communication and Social Media Consultant Voices for Just Climate Action
Duty Station : Remote
Report to : VCA Country Engagement Manager
Duration : April to September 2023 for maximum 60 working days
Background
The
mean global temperature has increased by +1.1 degrees Celsius above the
pre-industrial baseline with increasingly frequent and extreme climatic
events, threatening to drive another 100 million people into poverty by
2030. Climate change affects the enjoyment of indivisible,
interdependent and interrelated human rights, hitting the most
vulnerable, the hardest and threatening to increase existing
inequalities. Civil society needs to engage and have a voice to
influence climate change policies. Business as usual will no longer
suffice and is no longer appropriate.
In
response, an alliance of 6 organizations: Hivos, WWF, Shack Dwellers
International, Akina Mama and South South North have joined hands in
running Voices for Just Climate Action program funded by the Dutch
Ministry of Foreign Affairs focusing on climate change lobby and
advocacy. This program is delivered in seven countries, including
Indonesia starting 2021 for the next five years in close partnership
with national and local civil society organisations. The five-year
strategic objective of the alliance is "By 2025, local civil society
groups have claimed a central role as empowered innovators, facilitators
and advocates of climate solutions". The program believes that citizens
and civil society must be centre-stage in climate transitions. We
intend to build wide societal support for locally shaped climate
solutions through an inclusive and rights-based approach
Objective
A
strong narrative and a shared platform are necessary in order to
effectively amplify the voice of local and national civil society for a
just climate transition. To assist the growing VCA program, Yayasan
Hivos is looking for Communication and Social Media Consultant to help
our team.
Under the supervision of the Country Engagement
Manager, the consultant will support the VCA program on communication
strategy as well as developing and implementing social media strategy
for VCA by aligning it with team priorities, and giving visibility to
partner actions. S/he will be highly energized by working with partners
from the community and global level, love a challenging, yet rewarding
environment to work in.
Scope of work
The consultant is expected to:
a. Develop
and implement effective VCA communication strategies and campaigns
plans, aimed at informing the public of VCA initiatives
b. Develop
and implement social media strategy for VCA – Hivos in line with
overall communications plans for campaigns, relevant international days
and large events
c. Responsible
of the development of VCA communications materials and content to
support the program’s goals and priorities, incl. stories, press
releases, newsletters, brochures, factsheets, etc
d. Manage
and create high quality social media content, identify target audiences
and schedule posts to maximize social media exposure. This includes
graphic design or short video if needed.
e. Create
social media content calendar, with stand-alone thematic moments, and
full integration with wider VCA plans in collaboration with VCA team,
including to identify where to act on social media and how to
communicate.
f. Manage
VCA social media accounts and disseminate targeting messaging to key
audiences and feeds to other relevant social media accounts or handles
to amplify VCA contents.
g. Provide
analysis on the performance of VCA’s social media platforms, including
engagement, reach, content, based on data and statistics
h. To
keep up to date with the latest social media trends, best practices and
technologies for best practices application in social media campaigns
to increase digital engagement
i. Desktop
research and identify potential networks and maintain relationships
with existing online partners (influencers, communities).
j. Other task (s) as assigned by the Country Engagement Manager.
Qualifications and Experiences:
• Indonesia individual consultant or consulting firm
• At least a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Mass Communication, Journalism or a relevant field
• A
minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in
campaign and communication to decision-makers in government and private
sector, NGOs, and the broader public at national levels is required.
• Ability to identify the preferences of our target audience and accordingly build social media content
• Able to “down-earth” the language of social issues into a creative and interesting contents
• Sound knowledge of web traffic metrics
• Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and English
• Strong verbal as well as written communication skills
• Work remotely, but must be available to travel/ attend meetings or events around Indonesia or online whenever necessary.
• Prior experience as a Communication and Social Media Strategist or Social Media Manager is an advantage
