GIZ in cooperation with the Direktorat Jenderal Energi Baru, Terbarukan dan Konservasi Energi (DJEBTKE) is currently implementing 1,000 Islands – Renewable Energy for Electrification Programme (REEP) project with the objective to demonstrate the feasibility of Indonesia’s renewable energy target of 23% by 2025 in selected pilot grids.

The Project focuses its activities on regional/island grids outside Jawa-Madura-Bali (Jamali) and Sumatra grids. The core of the Project’s methodological approach is the systematic integration of private sector’s renewable electricity generation into the grid. The aim is to appropriately consider 23% of renewable energy by 2025 in power system planning of selected pilot grids (Field of Activity 2). The results and learning experiences gained from this activity and other relevant Financial Cooperation modules will be used to help improve the legal and regulatory framework conditions to further promote renewable energy in regional/island grids (Field of Activity 1). Nationwide dissemination of the results and their integration into PLN’s Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) are implemented by EBTKE and PLN respectively (Field of Activity 3). This is accompanied by strengthening the competence of independent power producers (IPP) and project developers on the grid integration of renewable energy (Field of Activity 4).
