Background

 
MSF is Médecins Sans Frontières /Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international independent humanitarian medical organization which aims to deliver emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare, offering assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation and whose actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality as stated out in the MSF Charter.
 
MSF is opening a project to improve adolescents’ health and their access to health care in Labuan/ Carita in Banten Province. MSF will implement the adolescent health policy/ guideline developed by National Ministry of Health in collaboration Puskesmas/ local government, which is to demonstrate the best practice of the policy and the guideline. The project contains not only clinical activities but also health promotion and individual counseling for the target population.   
 
Médecins Sans Frontières is now seeking for  Banten Project a highly qualified candidate to fill in the position of Counseling officer (Counselor educator) Labuan based
 
 

Accountabilities

o    Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and other relevant topic needs for adolescents in the area of intervention.
o    Perform counseling and/or educational sessions (both individual/ group) to adolescents in the area of Labuan and Carita, following different medical and other adolescent specific issues according to the National guidelines and in conjunction with MSF protocols and procedures,
o    Take active part in trainings, supervisions and support of the educational/ counseling activities in the health centers, community and the adolescent youth corner
o    Conduct sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about issues relevant to adolescents when necessary.
o    Actively encourage access to the availability of counseling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
o    Actively participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling and psychosocial educational activities and look after it.
o    Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss different cases encountered with relevant team members, preserving confidentiality
o    Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
o    Discuss difficulties and problems in counseling with supervisor.
 


Requirements


Education
Education level in Counseling, social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma
Experience
Desirable experience in psychosocial work in the
community
Desirable experience working with adolescent group 
Desirable one year of previous experience in a
humanitarian agencies or other NGO

Languages             
Proficiency in English and Bahasa is a must
Knowledge of other local language is desirable (E.g. Sundanese)
