GIZ Indonesia for Study and Experts Fund of Standards in the Southeast Asian Food Trade (SFF SAFT) project: Junior Advisor on Consumer Protection in Food Trade



The ASEAN-German cooperation project “Standards in the Southeast Asian Food Trade” (SAFT) started in 2015 and will run until end of 2018. In close cooperation with the ASEAN Sectoral Working Group on Crops (ASWGC) and relevant national as well as international partners from the public and private sector, the project strives to realize the following objective: International or ASEAN-wide standards for good agricultural practices (GAP) and specific food quality attributes (particularly for fresh and processed fruit and vegetables from organic agriculture) are implemented in a credible manner.

With additional funding from the Study and Experts Fund (SFF), the SAFT project will implement a series of activities to address consumer protection issues in the area of food trade. This includes the finalization of consumer surveys in selected ASEAN Member States (Cambodia, Myanmar and Viet Nam) and their follow-up in workshops with relevant stakeholders from the public sector, businesses as well as consumer associations. It is envisaged that the activities will also be closely aligned with the regional action plans of ASEAN and lessons for possible replication in other countries compiled.

GIZ is seeking one qualified Indonesian candidate for the following position:


Responsibilities
  1. Coordination of regional and country-level project activities and liaison with counterparts and other key stakeholders;
  2. Research and knowledge management, media and results monitoring, contribution to project publications and other communication materials;
  3. Backstopping of the preparation and formalization of upcoming regional projects between Germany and ASEAN, as necessary.

The Job Holder performs the following tasks, but is not limited to:

1.     Project implementation and related activities

  • General support to project administration, management and monitoring, including logistical and substantive preparation of both regional and national-level activities in selected ASEAN Member States (e.g. workshops, seminars, conferences, focus group discussions, studies)..

2.     Professional advisory services

  • Conceptualizing, planning and implementing activities for the project, including preparing concept notes, terms of reference, budget requests and reports;
  • Compiling all necessary background information for project activities and external expert assignments;
  • Screening the national media and conducting brief studies on economic and political developments relevant in the context of Regional Economic Integration in ASEAN;
  • Formulating appropriate inputs for regular reports, presentations etc. as required by the project.

3.     Networking and cooperation

  • Ensuring cooperation, regular contact and dialogue with stakeholders and development partners in order to keep up-to-date with developments and discussions that are relevant to the current and future engagement of German Development Cooperation in ASEAN;
  • Communicating with the rest of the project team and other relevant stakeholders in the ASEAN region, as required, while encouraging the sharing of ideas and information for the benefit of the project;
  • Contributing to regular updates (newsletter) on activities in the area of Regional Economic Integration, including preparation of an internal GIZ training on ASEAN.


4.     Other duties / additional tasks

  • Subject to be discussed with the Principal Advisor, additional tasks and other duties may be allocated to the Junior Advisor.

Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in international relations, law, economics, or other relevant field;
  • At least 1 (one) year of professional experience in a similar position;
  • Excellent understanding of topics and issues related to economic development and regional integration, as well as ability to identify thematic interfaces;
  • Very good command of English and Indonesian (spoken and written).

Other knowledge, additional competences
  • Strong networking, communication, presentation and diplomatic skills;
  • Results- and performance orientation;
  • Team player with interpersonal/-cultural and organizational competence, as well as ability to work independently and proactively;
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office).
