Vacancy Deputy Director; PUTERA SAMPOERNA FOUNDATION for AIFIS Center, Jakarta

The Putera Sampoerna Foundation is currently hosting The American Institute for Indonesian Studies (AIFIS) in Jakarta. AIFIS's Jakarta center is the Indonesian headquarters of AIFIS, whose mission is to facilitate study and research concerning Indonesia in the fields of the physical sciences, social sciences, agricultural practices and technologies, engineering, and the arts and humanities. AIFIS also encourages information and educational exchange between the United States and Indonesia, and fosters cooperation between American and Indonesian researchers and students.

A key goal of The American Institute for Indonesian Studies (AIFIS) is to create an open and friendly environment that draws in Indonesian and American researchers from diverse backgrounds, and maximizes interactions between American and Indonesian scholars and between scholars and students. To support this mandate, we are looking for a qualified and experienced individual to join our team as:

Position: Deputy Director
Section: American Institute for Indonesian Studies
Location: Based in Jakarta
Responsibilities:
• Facilitate research activities of American researchers in Indonesia who use AIFIS facilities and services; this includes providing logistical support for their efforts, helping locate partner Indonesian institutions and scholars; and providing opportunities for them to share their research and experiences with the Indonesian community.
• Coordinate the cooperative use of facilities, personnel, and programs with AIFIS partner institutions and agencies in Indonesia.
• Foster friendly, cooperative and productive relationships with departments and agencies of Government of Indonesia and with international organizations in Jakarta; seek ways to develop scholarly programs and exchanges in cooperation with these departments, agencies, and organizations.
• Work with the Resident Director on necessary narrative reports on activities, and other documents; Submission of monthly reports on financial operations to U.S. office.
• Serve as a translator of written and oral Indonesian as necessary to the operation and services of the Center.
• Assist in insuring that AIFIS meets all registration and reporting requirements for operation as a research center in Indonesia; this includes registration with appropriate Indonesian government agencies and reports and remittances to taxation and employment offices.
• Assist in the development of ideas for Center programs.
• Maintain statistics on library use, computer use, requests for information on AIFIS programs, and requests for funding and fellowships.
• Plan and run lectures, seminars, workshops, and symposia.

Requirements:
• Indonesian National
• Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia
• A high level of computer, website, and database competence
• a full understanding of processes and scope of research activities in Indonesia.
• ability to promote AIFIS within academic circles.
• Skilled at program planning and reporting, contract management and overseeing a medium-sized operation in an international standard internal management and governance environment.
• High level interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, a good understanding of educational issues in the Indonesian context.
